All donations and proceeds will be given to Solidarity Across Borders. SAB is on the frontline directly supporting people vulnerable to COVID-19 pandemic crisis, primarily non-status and refugee individuals and families in Montreal / Tiohtià:ke.
Solidarity Across Borders is a migrant justice network based in Montreal, active since 2003. We are comprised of migrants and allies, and we organize together to support individuals and families who are confronting an unjust immigration and refugee system. We engage in popular education, direct mutual aid and support work, and political mobilizations, including demonstrations, pickets, delegations, and direct actions. We support open borders and the free movement of people seeking justice and dignity, meaning freedom to move, freedom to return, and the freedom to stay.
Direct support and mutual aid for non-status members of our community have always been a vital part of our organizing, and the coronavirus pandemic has only made the relevance of this work more urgent and clear. Since March we have redistributed financial resources to hundreds of individuals and families in our network who have been denied access to emergency government relief because of their lack of status, helping to pay for rent, food and medication. In order to maintain this level of support, we will need to fundraise approximately $30,000 per month for the foreseeable future. Donations to our mutual aid fund increase our capacity to struggle collectively for justice, and allow those who are most affected by the violence of Canada’s immigration system to lead this struggle. We deeply appreciate your support and solidarity.
